Over at LeeFish, we usually have a themed challenge each month; it can be something specific, like decorating a certain house, or something more general, like winter. For January, it was suggested that the theme should be Fitness, since January is the month of New Year’s resolutions, and exercising more/getting fitter/losing weight are popular ones. So, in line with this, I’ve made an exercise mat that Sims aged child to elder can use to gain body skill and get fitter – and if you have Free Time, they’ll gain Fitness enthusiasm as well. And it’s not just for present-day Sims, either; medieval (and other) Sims can use it, too, it has recols for that. 😉 (And yes, I know there are other exercise mats out there already, but I wanted one with my own little quirks, so.)

Adult Sims will lie down on the mat to use it (as demonstrated by Yelena in the title pic), but child Sims will prefer to use it standing up. As per usual with my fitness items, once a Sim has three or more body skill points, he or she can also offer and be asked for lessons. Kids can’t teach with this one, but they can be taught:
Of course, the mat comes with recolours – twenty of them, all in all.
First of all, it has an invisible recol, in case you don’t want your exercise mat to be visible for some reason. To make this recol truly invisible, the mat has neither indoor shadow nor sun shadow. Just so you don’t think the lack of shadows is an oversight on my part if you notice it in game. 😉
In addition to the invisible recol, it comes in the seven LACK colours (where the white one is the mesh):
And for Sims who think that plain colours are a bit too, well, plain, it also has ten recols in some lovely colourful patterns by agussgut at Colour Lovers:
And finally, for your medieval and/or rustic Sims, two canvas recols. Nothing fancy, but good for blacksmiths and other types who don’t mind things a bit rugged:
The exercise mat is base-game compatible, unless you have the Kitchen & Bath SP. Then, and only then, Free Time is required. (This is because of an EA coding error I can’t work around – sorry.)
If you don’t have K&B, Free Time is not required.

I mean, they exercise for ten minutes and then *WHOOMP!* they literally can see their waist go down like five sizes. Ooh. This could potentially ‘fix’ the “but I have no room” bollocks sims do when I try and make them exercise in front of the T.V. Just turn the T.V. to the sports channel and use this instead. Thanks!
You’re welcome! 😀 And that was actually one of the reasons I made it. 🙂 My Sims never think they have enough room to exercise, the TV can be in the middle of a ballroom and they’ll still whine (all right, maybe it’s not quite that bad, but they do want a lot of room). Much less foot-stomping and arm-waving this way.

I must admit the ‘hood view was a happy accident, the deco object I used as a base was already set up to be visible, so I just left it like that. 😉

I’d love to download this awesome mat of yours, but the download link doesn’t seem to work for me? When I click it, nothing happens. When I copy the link, I just end up with an empty page.
This is very, very strange. The file was still sitting on my file host snug as a bug, but when I tried to download it either from here or directly from my account, I got the same results (or rather lack thereof) as you.

I’ll never get most people’s attitude to just accept that things don’t work the way they should. If I would create for the game and host downloads, I’d like to know if something’s not working.

Yeah, I don’t understand that attitude, either. And something I understand even less is that if some people find a problem with an upload, be it a faulty link or a problem with the item itself, they will happily tell their family, friends, dog, priest, and Random Person on the Internet, including but not limited to SimSecret – but they won’t tell the one person who could fix the problem for them, i.e. the creator. I’m not sure on which planet that approach makes sense, but I’m reasonably sure it isn’t this one. 😛

I wish I hadn’t just found these now after so long of wondering how I could make something like this work! Unfortunately they don’t appear to be showing up in my game though. I have UC, so in all technicality I have K&B and Freetime, so I’m not sure what’s up. I most definitely have all but the canvas recolors in my downloads folder, but no luck.

I just downloaded the file and checked the mat in a(n otherwise empty) test game, to make sure that Mediafire hadn’t borked something again, and all recolours show up just fine for me. (Because you do mean that the recols aren’t showing up, right? It’s not that you can’t find the mat?) So unfortunately, I have no idea what’s up, either.
The only advice I can give you is to try and reinstall (and possibly redownload) it, if you haven’t tried it already. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help. 😦

Actually the mat itself isn’t showing up in my game for some reason. The only files I didn’t put in my downloads folder as I do with all my other cc were the canvas recolor packages. I’ve checked in hobbies > excersize, hobbies > misc, and hobbies > all just in case. I can’t figure out for the life of me why it’s not showing. I don’t know as I would have anything that would possibly conflict, so maybe it’s because I have UC and not the individual eps/sps.

You having UC rather than individual EPs should not be a problem, since that just means you have all EPs and SPs in a collection, not that you have a different version of the game or anything like that. And the mat is base game-compatible, it doesn’t require anything other than, well, the base game. (The one and only exception is if you have K&B; in that case, you also need FT, otherwise you’ll get a jump bug.) So I honestly have no idea why it isn’t showing up for you. 😦
You’re absolutely sure you didn’t just put the recolours in your Downloads folder, and forgot the mesh? Could you please check it’s in there, just to be on the safe side? The file name is obj_NixNivis_ExerciseMat.package. Thanks in advance!
Hm…I didn’t think UC would be an issue but it’s been pegged as being a problem in some other weird situations so I suppose you never know. xD

I tried moving it from a subfolder into the main downloads folder to see if that does any good, so I’ll be able to find out once my game reloads in about 3000 years. 😛

If it still isn’t showing up in your game, could you please do me a great favour? Try loading your game with only my exercise mat in. I.e., move your Downloads folder… somewhere, to your desktop or something, and then make a brand new one in your Sims 2 folder, with nothing in it but my mat. Then fire up the game (which should now load in about ten seconds 😉 ) – but don’t go into one of your regular neighbourhoods (if you do, you’ll lose any custom ‘hood deco you might have in it, and we do not want that), but instead create a new one. Then, in this new ‘hood, open a family or lot, and see if you can find the mat. (When you’re done, you can just exit the game and restore your original Downloads folder to its rightful place. Take the new Downloads folder out first, though; otherwise, Windows will try to merge them, and with that much cc, it’ll take forever. Learnt that the hard way myself. 😛 )
If you can find it this time, that means something somewhere in those 9 GB of cc is interfering with it. But if you can’t find it… then I’m flat out of ideas, sorry. 😦
I’m guessing something somewhere was maybe loading before/after the mat that was causing it to not show, because moving it into the main downloads folder made it show up without a fuss this time! I’ve got it in one of the teens’ bedrooms in one of my lots right now and she’s using it perfectly. It’s so much nicer than the TV blaring.
Thanks so much for being so patient about the whole thing. xD I was seriously worried something was conflicting somewhere and I really wanted to make sure we were both aware so it could be noted/fixed.

Hi! I came across a problem where pregnant sims would throw an error whenever they would exit out of the mat. They can still use the mat without problems but throw an error when exiting out of the interaction. Non-pregnant sims are unaffected on the other hand. I have tried this in a fresh folder with no mods/cc and the problem persists. Thank you again for reading!

It really means a LOT when people do, especially with older objects like this (if I haven’t found a bug in seven (yikes!) years, chances are I never will). Also thank you very much for making the extra effort to check it in a vanilla game, and for letting me know you have the UC, that meant I could rule out things like mod conflicts and compatibility issues right from the start and saved me quite a bit of troubleshooting. Thanks to you, I'm happy to report the bug has been found and squashed (I very much hope! At least I haven't been able to reproduce it again), and a fixed version of the exercise mat has been uploaded. Again, thank you super much for reporting! I don’t know who you are, but you’re my favourite person of the year!
(In case you’re wondering what was going on, I had the mat set up to have Sims change into everyday clothes when they were finished exercising. Pregnant Sims in maternity wear ignored this, as they should… only my code didn’t ignore it, but threw an error if the Sim didn’t change clothes. I’ve now fixed it so that it continues on to the next line of code no matter what. Which is how I should have set it up right from the start. :oops:)
This is amazing. I was looking for something like this. Thank you! but it has one small problem, the physiology bug. my sim who learned physiology leveled up to the max instantly when using it although I have alfixes and it has fix for it which work for the workout machines in game but not the mat. I wonder if there is a way to incorporate in the mat.
Hi there! First of all, glad you find the mat useful! It always makes my day to hear that people like and use my items. 😀
But that’s very strange, that you still get the physiology bug with the mat even though you have alfixes and it works for the in game workout machines. If alfixes works for those, it should work for the mat as well – and in my (almost vanilla) test game, it does. I’ve checked it with both alfixes and Gummilutt’s physiology fix, and with both of them Sims who’ve studied Physiology gain body skill from the mat at a normal rate. I have no idea why it doesn’t work for you – it should. (Only thing I can think of is conflicting mods – I know alfixes conflicts with a lot of things – but in that case I wouldn’t expect the fix to work for in game objects, either. So I’m at a loss here.)
As for incorporating the fix in the mat… I’m sorry, but that I can’t do. The fix per se isn’t that tricky, but getting the mat to use it… that’s the tricky part, and there’s a good chance something else would get messed up along the way. So I really don’t want to risk it, sorry.
