HugeLunatic at Sims2Artists has released a CEP file that gives this lamp two recolourable subsets, which means that the shade and the base (frame) can be recoloured separately. Go get it! π
Nix goes recolouring. π
I really like the little table lamp LAMPAN (which simply means “the lamp” in Swedish) from the IKEA stuff pack, but I don’t like that it only comes in two colours. So, using CuriousB’s Any Colour You Like actions, I made some recolours. 30 of them, to be exact. Obviously, the IKEA stuff pack is required.
Aha – IKEA lamp recolours, very nice too – I also hated that lamp being only two colours. I have not looked in the file, but is it possible to have the base white and the caps coloured? This is not a request, more a scientific enquiry π
Thanks! π And to satisfy your scientific curiosity, the base and the caps can’t be recoloured individually (just one group for the material, even though the mesh has separate ones for the cap and the base), but it’s quite easy to tell which part of the texture is the cap and which is the base, so if somebody wants to make a recol (or two, or three, or…) with a white base and a coloured cap, it shouldn’t be a problem. But it would only be that recol that had the white base. π¦
Of course, one could always make a default replacement that has two recolourable groups… π
Or – we could see how Lunie does it and make it so that it has a CEP extras file that enables the base. I saw she did it on an armoire.
Even better idea! Sounds like considerably less work. π
You don’t happen to remember which armoire? I try to remember if I’ve seen it, but it doesn’t ring a bell. Not that it means anything; my memory is notoriously unreliable. π
Its in Lunies cottage kitchen – she edited the Armoire she slaved the dresser to to make the handles recolourable.
Here is the relevant post on MTS >> http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=394313
Thanks! π
All right, she’s added the handles to the GMND and given them a TXMT and MMAT, just like you add normally a subset – if there’s nothing worse to it than that, I can do it. I think/hope/want to believe. π I’ll give it a go when I’ve finished experimenting with fences. π
Well, that would be great – when you have time :p – I suspect that IF it works the way I think it will then suddenly, as if by magic, all these recolours above will appear as a mix and match – and that would be flippin’ awesome.
That’s what I’m hoping/thinking, too. π
It wasn’t quite as easy as I thought it would be (of course π ), but I at least seem to be moving in the right direction. I’ll save it for tomorrow, though – I need to crash early tonight. (But I’m sure I will be dreaming about lamps and/or bump maps. π )
of course – a cursed lamp……
I just made my first default replacement GMDC – I did the clone with default colour only – and saved ONLY the GMDC in the file (un-numbered of course) and then dropped my edit in the GMDC – and it worked π No custom star, de-stupidified mesh. YAY.
You da Fish! π This is the Mission Chair? Or are you making some other sinister Sim experiments? π
Any lamp that has a block in the GMND called BelowWaterTranslucent has to be up to no good. π And I’m going to give the lamp another go later today. I’m not sure my brain was firing on all cylinders yesterday, it usually isn’t come bedtime, but I’m hoping fresh eyes will see where I went wrong the first time. (I got the lamp to agree that the cap and the base were different groups, but it went downhill from there. :P) Stay tuned!
Yes, it is the Mission Dining Chair, the bar stool is stupid too, but I never use it. I spent several hours on my recolour – which still sucks. π¦
Starting a new thread since (I think) I have a ten-level limit on comments. π
Hmm. could you do me a favour? If you have Lunie’s CEP extra in, could you recolour the Anti-Quaint Armoire and tell me if the handles take on your recol? ‘Cause they don’t for me, but I want/need to make sure it’s not just
me that fail at recolouringmy game. That would be a great help! πYup – I shall go try π
You da Fish! Thanks! π
Ok, I am back and I can report results π
as you can see I have an armoire with fetching red handles. In my downloads folder I have the huge lunatic file and the _EnableColorOptionsGMND.package. When I did the cloning I added the downloads folder to the file list in SIMPE.
BEFORE, I did not have the downloads folder included in SIMPE though I did have the HL file in the downloads and the CEP ticked in the file table in preferences. This resulted in a none recolour.
Thank you! Darnit, then I have to figure out what I’ve done wrong. π Unless, of course, some brave fish feels like having a look… *Nix tries to look innocent but fails miserably*
Yea, I shall have a go at making a thing for the CEP for the lamp. And that translucent underwater thing is in a lot of doors and windows too. Its all very odd. I think it may have something to do with reflections? Maybe? Or the unreleased Atlantis EP π
Atlantis, LOL! π Yeah, I’m pretty sure it has to do with reflections; the lamp also has an envcube called underwater-something (don’t remember the name exactly and am on notebook, so I can’t check). It’s more fun to think it means the lamp is all set for underwater usage, though. π
No matter what I do, I cannot get the base to recognise any colours other than the default white one, and I’m starting to run out of ideas. π¦ I have a nasty feeling it might be something completely obvious that I’ve overlooked because I’ve stared at it too long. And now I seriously need to get some sleep lest I’ll be so tired tomorrow I’ll give my dog cereal while I eat kibble… π
Edit:
Look, look, look!
Adding my Downloads folder to SimPE, like you suggested, was what was needed to make the base recognise that it’s recolourable; it now has “TEST” written all over it. π (Hooray, I’m not completely inept at this after all!) But the darned thing still isn’t picking up any of the old cap recols – which sucks, because that would be awesome. π¦
OMG – that is awesome – I managed to get the base to show but it blew up ALL the recolourability. But I never made a lamp even so perhaps it was a bit ambitious π
Yeah, even if I’ve made a couple of lamps before, the whole multi-state thing adds a whole new level of ouch to this IMO. That whole GMND just makes my head hurt. π
Right now, unless it’s a recol specifically made for the base, the only texture the base picks up is the default white one (which gets a custom star, but only for the base). Which I guess is normal recolourable subset behaviour, but I want it to pick up the shade recols and I’m not sure how to get it to do that (so far, nothing I’ve tried has worked). π¦ Still, I’d be happy to share if you want it.
