FAQ

How do I install files I’ve downloaded for The Sims 2?

Unzip the files (for example by using WinRAR) to your Downloads folder. Where exactly you’ll find that folder depends on your operating system:

  • Windows XP and below: Documents and Settings\[Your User Account]\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\
  • Windows Vista/Windows 7/Mac: Users\[Your User Account]\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\
  • Ultimate Collection: Users\[Your User Account]\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Downloads\

If you have no idea what I just said, there are step-by-step instructions at ModTheSims. They are written to help users who download from MTS, so the screenshots used to illustrate it are from there, but the installation procedure is the same no matter from where you’ve downloaded your files.

Also, for custom objects and/or recolours of Maxis objects to work in your game, you have to have the CEP installed. See the link for more info.

Do your items work with The Sims 3/4?

No, they are for The Sims 2 only and won’t work in TS3/4. If you try to use them in TS3/4, then your game won’t start and you will get an error message about the files being corrupt. (Don’t let the file extension fool you; .package files for TS2 are not the same thing as .package files for TS3/4. And yes, it would have been great if EAxis had used some other extension for TS3/4 to make it easier to tell the difference. :/ )

Do your items work with Sim Stories?

I have no idea – but TS2 and Stories aren’t the same game, even if they look very similar (just as with TS3 and Sims Medieval). I have heard of people who’ve been able to use TS2 items successfully in Stories but I have no way of verifying this myself, so for the safety of your game it’s best to assume they don’t work. Should you decide to give it a try anyway, you do so at your own risk.

Do your items work on Macs?

Again, I have no idea – and I have no means of checking, either. Like with Sim Stories, you use my items at your own risk. Sorry.

Do you make things for The Sims 3/4?

I don’t, sorry. I don’t have either game and I’m not planning on getting them, either. I’m perfectly happy with The Sims 2.

May I convert your things for The Sims 3/4?

For The Sims 3, yes – but not for The Sims 4 (unless it’s just for your own game, of course – then anything goes). Sorry.

The exception is my TSM conversions. Since those meshes and textures weren’t mine to begin with, you may do whatever you please with them. You don’t even have to give me credit (after all, all I did was extract them and sometimes tweak the mesh/texture a little to make it look more Sim 2-ish) – unless you want to, of course, then it’s much appreciated. 🙂

Can you teach me how to make my own clothes/objects for The Sims 2?

Sorry, but no. I’m busy enough as it is with my own projects, and I also – believe it or not 😉 – have a Real Life, so I really don’t have the time to teach anybody anything. But if you want to learn, there are many great tutorials out there to help you. Google is your friend.

Do you take requests?

…maybe. I don’t take requests as a rule, but if it’s something I’d like in my own game and/or it sounds fun to make, and if I also don’t have too much on my plate otherwise, then I might do it anyway. It never hurts to ask – just as long as you’re aware I might say no.

If I do say yes, though, you should know that I’m not a fast worker. 😳 Sometimes, there are other things I want/need to finish first; sometimes I’m low on spoons and can’t spend as much time simming as I’d like; sometimes, there are things in Real Life that have to take precedence; and sometimes I just need to step away from the game for a bit and do something completely different to clear my head. But I promise I will finish requests I’ve accepted, even if it might take a while.

What are your poly counts?

Low poly = < 1000 polys
Medium poly = (approx.) 1000 – 2000 polys
High poly! = 2000+ polys

With high poly objects I will also note approximately how many polys they have, just so you know whether the object in question has 2047 polys or 7000. (For the record, my highest poly object to date is my decorative sextant, which has a little over 6500 polys. That’s an exception, though; most of my high poly objects fall within the 2000 – 3000 poly range.)
