Invisible Duel Dummy with Custom Swords

Invisible Duel Dummy

Category: Hobbies -> Exercise
Cost: $5
Poly Count: Low poly
EPs Required: Nightlife or above

While we’re on the subject of knights. πŸ˜‰

Over at Affinity Sims, the brilliant Rebecah has extracted the BV duel dummy so Sims can use it to gain body skill and sports enthusiasm. πŸ˜€ This is absolutely great, of course, but for my own storytelling purposes, there were two things about it I wanted done a little differently: I wanted it to be invisible so I wouldn’t have to keep moveObjects’ing it out of the way for screenshots (I know, I’m lazy), and I wanted the Sims to use swords instead of cutlasses. More knightly that way. Thanks to Rebecah’s generous policy, I could clone her dummy and tweak it.

And tweak I did. πŸ™‚ First and foremost, this duel dummy doesn’t require Bon Voyage, nor does it require Freetime. However, it does require Nightlife or above, but it doesn’t matter which EP(s) you have; anything between NL and AL goes. Sims still get sports enthusiasm if you have FT installed, though, and of course they also still gain body skill.

Secondly, this dummy is invisible – really invisible. It doesn’t even have a sun shadow. But it does have a not-invisible hay bale recolour, just in case you want to position your Sims for a duel and need to be able to see where you put the dummy. Or if your Sims, you know, think that windmills are sooo 16th century and prefer to fight hay bales. (It’s what all the kool knights are doing these days.)

Hay Recol
“Yield, knave!”

And thirdly, as you can see above, your Sims now duel with swords. If this sword reminds you of one used with my knightly posebox, then… you are absolutely correct. πŸ˜† This, too, is a longsword from TSM. (What can I say, I like the TSM swords.) Just as with the swords for my posebox, this sword won’t show up in the catalogue, but you still need to keep it in your Downloads folder lest your Sims will duel empty-handed.

Child Sims can also use this duel dummy (that’s nothing I can take credit for, Rebecah’s original dummy was already set up this way) – only you can’t very well have them fight with sharp, heavy longswords like the adults do, that would be dangerous. So, your little Simlets will get wooden swords instead. Less risk of injury for them, and less risk of ulcers for their parents. πŸ˜›

Duel for Kids

All credit for this object belongs to Rebecah – I’ve really just sponged off her work. Also, since this is cloned from her duel dummy, her terms of use apply, not mine.

Thank you, Rebecah!

    • Yay, thanks! πŸ˜€ *runs over to Affinity to look* It’s all Rebecah’s work (what would this community do without her?), I just played around a little with it, but it was fun to make even so. And it gave me an excuse to use the word “knave” in a caption. πŸ˜‰

  1. This is soooooooo cool. I must see how it’s put together; something like this would be dandy for maquahuiti or bat’leths or kar’takan or other nasty pointy things. Many thanks, Nix.

    • Isn’t it? Good thing we have Rebecah; my SimPE threw a major Out of Memory hissyfit every time I tried to extract something from the pirate ship.

And go ahead and pick it apart ’til your heart’s content. πŸ™‚ If you want it to spawn other weapons, you have the “Create New Object Instance” in the Event BHAV. The object in question needs to be cloned from an accessory object like the milk carton, though (or my sword, for that matter ;)), otherwise it won’t be spawnable. Have fun! πŸ˜€

  2. Oh my goodness, this is BRILLIANT! Utterly brilliant! I just wish I had seen it yesterday … though now that I think about it, it makes more sense for Aglovale to be dueling a dueling dummy than for him to be dueling the air.

But still! Custom swords that aren’t cutlasses, yay! The ability to put them back-to-back and make it look like the Sims are dueling each other! And what is even better — wooden swords for the kids! You have no idea how happy that makes me!

Thank you so much, Nix! πŸ˜€

    • Thank you! Glad you like! It’s really all Rebecah’s work, I just poked at it a little here and there. πŸ™‚

But yeah, cutlasses just didn’t work in my universe; my knights would have formed Carellan’s very first union and gone on strike. πŸ˜› And kids using the same swords as adults looked absolutely absurd (not to mention there’s absolutely no way that green-clad fellow – who isn’t a social butterfly πŸ˜‰ – would ever let his sons spar with real swords), so I had to do something about that. TSM really is a treasure trove for these things! πŸ˜€

Edit: Ooh, I just saw you posted this as a find over at the Keep! Thank you! πŸ˜€ “Or at least, it’ll be a little harder for them to poke their eyes out,” LOL!

  3. You make my dreams come true! Thank you a million times! And a special thanks for including children with their own swords!

    • Aww, thank you! I’m so glad you like it. πŸ˜€ Yes, it didn’t seem fair to leave the children out, but it also seemed much too dangerous to let them use “real” swords. So wooden swords for the Simlets it was. πŸ™‚

  4. Ooh nice. I’ve been looking for another way to make it look like my sims are actually dueling. I have Paladin’s dueling swords, but they’re also cutlasses, not sword swords. XD Thanks!
