Knightly Posebox with Accessory Swords

A Knightly Posebox with Accessory Swords

Category: Hobbies -> Misc.
Cost: $0
EPs Required: None – base-game compatible
Works For: Both genders, teen to elder

Sometimes, I go a little overboard. For this medievalish story I’m writing (that isn’t live yet), I needed a particular kneeling pose. One pose. And then I thought that it would be great if the Sim was holding a sword and oh, TSM has some nice ones… and then it rapidly went downhill from there. πŸ™„

The result is this: a posebox with seven kneeling and three standing poses for you to mix and match. (Yes, I know there are similar poseboxes out there already, but I wanted my own.) To add some knightly flavour, all of the standing poses as well as one of the kneeling ones have accessory swords to go with them, that will be spawned automatically when you run the poses. That’s right, your Sims won’t have to put them on or take them off using a mirror: the posebox will take care of it for them. A knightly posebox should be chivalrous, after all. πŸ˜‰

As a posebox user, I have to admit I’m quite lazy. It annoys me when I have to click through five menu levels to be able to start a pose and then again to stop it, and then the poses don’t have names, just numbers, but I can’t remember if I used Pose 3 or Pose 7 so I have to click through them all because the box doesn’t have a reset option. πŸ˜• So for the sake of my and other lazy simmers’ sanity, I’ve tried to keep things as simple as possible with this posebox.

Top Level Menus
Josua is one of the Sims helping us with the demonstration today; you’ll be seeing more of him in my story.

All the poses are stopped with the “Stop Poses” option. For the poses that have them, the swords will be removed automatically when the pose is stopped, but just in case you want to get rid of the swords but keep the Sim posed you can also remove them manually with “Remove Swords”. In case of emergency, you can reset the Sim with “Force End”.

On to the poses! πŸ˜€ First up are the three standing poses Sword Raised, Dubbing Knight and Threatening, all with swords from TSM. Even though you won’t see them in the catalogue or mirror, you need to keep the swords in your Downloads folder – otherwise, the posebox can’t spawn them.

Sword Raised
Dubbing Knight
Threatening

Then we have the seven kneeling poses: Hands on Sword Hilt, Hands on Knee, Hand on Chest, Hands on Hip, Arms at Side, Low Bow and Yielding. Only “Hands on Sword Hilt” has a sword (again extracted from TSM), the others are sword-less.

Hands on Sword Hilt
Hands on Knee; Hand on Chest
Hands on Hip; Arms at Side
Low Bow; Yielding

And finally, as a little bonus you also get some face overlays that you can use e.g. if you don’t want your Sim to grin like a loon while they’re threatening to cut somebody’s heart out (or if you do want your Sim to grin like a loon while they’re threatening to cut somebody’s heart out – whatever floats your boat πŸ˜‰ ). These you stop with the “Stop All” option under “Facial Overlays”. They are all in-game facial expressions, so I take no credit for them whatsoever – all I did was to compile them.

Facial Overlays

"Yield!"
“I yield! I yield!”

    • Glad you like it! πŸ˜€ And you’re very welcome; I had lots of fun making it even if I got a few more grey hairs in the process. πŸ˜‰

  1. These are amazing! And I love the swords are included! And that I don’t have to go to a mirror to get the Sim to hold the sword! Thank you, Nix!

… Although … if this doesn’t exist yet … those swords look awesome, would it be at all possible to make mirror versions of them so they can be combined with other poses and animation boxes? And if they do exist — could somebody point me to where they might be?

Thank you so much, Nix. I can’t wait to make use of these. πŸ˜€

    • Hee, I had hoped this would be something storytellers might find useful. πŸ˜€ And TSM has the best swords; the one with the kneeling pose is quite possibly my favouritest sword of all time. That’s the pose, and the Sim, that started it all. πŸ™‚ (Well, technically his liege lord was the Sim that started it all, since he was the reason for the kneeling, but anyway.)

I know these swords exist as deco, but I haven’t seen them as accessories. But, since I already have extracted them all, for me to turn them into hand-held accessories would be as easy as pie – making accessories is something I can do in my sleep. πŸ˜‰ Just give me a few days.

In the meantime, in case your knights want some sword fighting, I have an invisible sword version of Rebecah’s duel dummy coming right up. πŸ™‚ (The duel dummy is invisible and the Sims have swords, I mean. It’s not the swords that are invisible. :P) Not that her duel dummy isn’t awesome, of course, but that green-clad demo Sim of mine told me in no uncertain terms that a lord of an Old House couldn’t fight with cutlasses, so I had to do something about that. πŸ˜‰

  2. Oh, how Fabulous. I will have to include a link to this in our Spotlight as well. Thank you so much!

    • Thank you! πŸ˜€ I had lots of fun with this, even if those sword were a bit… challenging at times. Not the BHAV part of it, that was easy enough, but positioning them just so was a bit finicky. But I love how it came out. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you! Glad you like it. πŸ˜€ Yes, making it so that the swords appeared automatically seemed the easiest for the user – saves you the hassle of putting on and taking off the swords in the mirror. (And it was actually the easiest for me, too, to me making accessories is more time-consuming than objects.)

  3. Waaaaaaaa thank youuuuuuuuuuuu *0*!!!
I wanna hug you and say thanks over and over again xD!!!
*joking joking, I do not wanna have problems or misunderstandings πŸ™‚ *

    • LOL, don’t worry, no misunderstandings here! πŸ˜€ Again, very glad you like it!

BTW, since you seem to be interested in swords, have you seen my training dummies? You have an invisible one here and an armoured one here, both with custom swords. They might be of use to you as well. πŸ™‚

      • Ok ok XD!!!! It is because not all people “know” when someone is joking around, and it is very u_u…
Awwww The Training Dummies XD!!! are really cute and interesting, yesss now I have them for another story that will be out later, now I am trying to finish the ones I have ongoing. Thanks really, your stuff are really amazing πŸ™‚

        • Oh, I’m right with you there, it’s always best to be on the safe side on the Internet. We’re all from so many different countries and cultures, and for many of us, English isn’t our first language (I’m Swedish myself), so you can never really be sure the person on the other side of the screen will read what you wrote the way you meant it. So it’s better to be safe rather than sorry. πŸ™‚

And thank you! I’m glad you like them, and that you like my other stuff as well! πŸ˜€ And thank you so much for commenting so diligently, comments make my day. WordPress offers very good site statistics, so I know from there that people are downloading my stuff, but it still means the world to me when someone takes the time to stop and comment. So thank you! ❀

  4. Hiya Nix!

How are young lady? πŸ™‚ It’s been a while, eh?

I’ve never had need for a sword pose-box before now, but SimSteph (my Sim alter ego) needs a few shiny toys, because she is on a mission. And whose link should pop up first!

It never ceases to amaze me that I have neglected to download things from you. I keep thinking I have all of your “medievalish” downloads, but when I need something specific, I can usually rely on you.

    Thanks for these.

BTW – I really love your adding the facial expressions. Some of the facial poses Sims naturally leave something to be desired.

    -steph

    • Steph!! πŸ˜€ How great to see you again! A while indeed. πŸ™‚ I hope all’s well with you and yours; me, I’m fine, thanks for asking. (Would be even better if the weather could just pick one and stick to it, instead of coin flipping between brilliant sun and 27C one day and downpour and 17C the next, but that’s Swedish summer for ya. πŸ˜› )

And you’re very welcome, I’m glad you (and SimSteph) found this useful. And yes, the facial expressions were a must, you never know what kind of face your Sim might make otherwise – except that it most likely isn’t the one you want. πŸ˜‰

      • Tee hee! Swedish summer is probably someone’s dream! Someone who is so happy she totally loves that awesome sunshine, but is equally gleeful for the cool down the next day. WIN! WIN! lol Seriously though…I know what you mean. It’s kinda like that sometimes here where I live and love in Canada (with a bit of grave rain forest humidity tossed in for good measure). I shan’t chat you up too much today, but I do appreciate my Nixed downloads and knowing you are in a good space.

        Stay beautiful lady! πŸ˜‰
