Well, she said, I’m back. πŸ™‚ I hope 2017 has been treating you well thus far; I know 2016 was a rough year for far too many of us. Here’s to hoping this will be better one for all – the only way is up, amirite?

So let’s start the simming year off with an upload that’s bound to lift your spirits – if you’re a Sim, at least. πŸ˜‰ My first upload of 2017 is two kinds of scented candles, inspired by IKEA’s BRÄCKA and SPRALLA candles. And for Sims, they’re scented for real.

In case you didn’t guess it from the category already, these are functional and not just decorative. (You know me, if I can make something functional, then I’m going to make it functional, gorrammit!) When lit, at regular intervals the candles will release a cloud of pollen dust, that has a 50% chance of increasing the mood of the Sims in the room. Also, the active Sim will have the option to “Smell Scent” (that unfortunately will be “smell scent” even if you play in a different language than English, except Swedish); then the chance of a mood boost will be much greater, but it will only affect the Sim smelling the candle.

But there’s more! As a perk (you know I love those), if you have FT, every once in a while the Sim who’s smelling the candle will also gain enthusiasm. πŸ™‚ In what? I hear you ask. Your guess is as good as mine – it’ll be completely random. Could be Nature, could be Sports, could be Science, could be something else entirely.

Enthusiastic Smelling

Now. The candles. First you have a candle in a glass, inspired by IKEA’s BRÄCKA scented candle. It comes in the same colours as the BRÄCKA candles (which were blue, pink, brown and reddish “mixed colours” when I started making it), but I’ve added some greens and yellows as well. You only get the one, clear recol for the glass, but it can of course be recoloured. (Screenshots are taken with additional lamps in the room, BTW, the candle itself doesn’t give off this much light. Because it’s, you know, a candle. πŸ˜› )

Candle No. 2 is a candle in a pot, loosely inspired by the SPRALLA scented candle. The candle only has two recols, white and yellow (vanilla and lemon?), but the pot comes in sixteen (mostly) IKEA-inspired patterns from COLOURlovers. Patterns are named for their respective creators.

    • Jackpot candles, hee. πŸ˜€ Very glad you like them! But you know me, if I can make something “unexpectedly functional” (love it!), you know I’m gonna. πŸ˜‰

      • Nix smartie friend! Creator question: Is adding Freetime-enthusiasm-gain when sims “view” decorative objects backwards compatible? Simmers without FT can still view use them if the object was cloned from a base game object?

        • You think I’m a brightly coloured chocolate? Yay! πŸ˜€

Couldn’t help myself, sorry. πŸ˜‰ Anyway, in general the short answer to your question is “no”, you’d be getting a jump bug. You can still make it so that the object works for non-FT users, though, if you add an EP check (op code 0x0404 IIRC) before the enthusiasm line and tell the game to skip the enthusiasm if FT isn’t installed.

But! Decorative objects are easier. πŸ˜€ There, you don’t have to bother with adding either enthusiasm gain or EP checks: all deco items, base game, custom and otherwise, give enthusiasm gain automatically if you have FT (but only then, so no jump bugs for non-FT users), it’s built into the “Interaction – View” global. So all you have to do there is change which kind of enthusiasm Sims gain; the game will take care of all the other stuff.

To do this, you’ll want to import a BHAV called “CT – View – Enthusiasm in T0”. It’s a little tricky to find, though; you can’t just import it from the pie menu functions, like you usually do, but have to extract it manually from the FT game files – objects.package, to be specific (found in C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Free Time\TSData\Res\Objects). Or, you can just download my TSM orrery and pinch it from there. πŸ˜‰ It’s set up to give Science enthusiasm, but that can easily be changed with the Wizard.

Lemme know if this doesn’t make any sense/you need further explanation/want to talk about the weather or whatever, and I’ll email you instead. πŸ™‚

          • Thank you very much, I appreciate your help! I think I understand: I know how to add FT enthusiasm gain in the BHAV like you said and now I can continue doing that (for deco objects only) without having to also upload a ‘bg’ file for simmers without FT?
And now thanks to your info, I can try to figure out the EP check (for functional objects) I might convert in the future πŸ˜€ Thanks again!

    • Thank you – it’s great to be back! (Especially when you get this kind of warm welcome.) πŸ˜€ And yeah, right now it feels like I’ve got a fairly decent supply of spoons. Hopefully, they’ll stick around for a while. And you’re most welcome, I’m very glad you like these. πŸ™‚ And thanks for commenting!

    • Glad you like! πŸ˜€ I’m quite pleased with how they turned out (and you know how I love functionality). And thanks, it’s great to be back! I’ve missed you guys, too. ❀

    • I’m glad you like them. πŸ˜€ And I love functionality, both as a player and as a modder, so if I can make something actually do something and not just look pretty, then I’m gonna. πŸ™‚

  1. Love the title! Love the candles! Love the functionality! Love the patterns! And, most of all, LOVE that you’re back!
    πŸ˜€ Love YOU ❀ {{{hugs}}}

    • Awww, you sweetie, you! ❀ It's great to be back; I honestly didn’t think that I’d get this kind of overwhelming welcome. πŸ™‚ And I’m so glad you like the candles (including the title; it made me I wince a little, but it was one of those things I just had to do), they were fun to make. The hardest part was limiting myself when it came to patterns for the cup, there are so many gorgeous patterns at COLOURlovers, I could easily have made fifty more recols. πŸ˜‰

    • I’m very glad you like them! I’m quite happy with how they came out, both in form and function.:) And thank you! It’s good to be back!
